At SHEBA, we are dedicated to enabling women to connect to and apply knowledge to improve their health, their lives and their communities. We believe:

Together, we can extend reach to impact outcomes.

To impact women’s health and wellbeing our teams extend the human reach of healthcare professionals by using innovative approaches and curricula, including digital tools, to provide education and connection to the healthcare system.

Achieving UN Sustainable Development Goals transforms lives.

We contribute directly to achieving United Nations Sustainable Development Goals with particular focus on reducing maternal mortality and improving health and well-being for all.

Svetlana Karuskina-Drivdale Ed.D 
Board of Directors 

Dr. Drivdale is a Harvard graduate specializing in Early Childhood Development & Mental Health. Currently as a WHO consultant, she reviews and consolidates existing tools and experiences to enhance the capacity of providers to promote nurturing healthcare services. In addition, she provides technical support to PATH and, in the past, served as consultant for other local and international organizations, such as UNESCO and Save the Children. Dr.Drivdale has thus been living and working in Africa for almost 20 years. Being passionate about applying the principles of social and behavior change in public health, her work includes supporting the design, implementation and evaluation of early learning, parenting education, maternal and child health and nutrition programs. 

Caren Rosenthal, MPH 
Board of Directors

Ms. Rosenthal is trained in International Maternal and Child Health and has 20+ years of experience in education for development. Her work has included community development work, training, materials development, undergraduate and graduate teaching in South America, and academic program coordination for online graduate-level teaching to students in 45 countries on six continents.

Ding-Jo Currie, Ph.D
Board of Directors

Dr. Currie is Distinguished Faculty of Higher Education Leadership and Director of Leadership Institute for Tomorrow at California State University Fullerton. She is also the President of Lingnan Foundation, an American philanthropy supporting international partnerships in higher education between China and the U.S.  She is currently on the Board of two American universities and has served in many key national leadership roles such as, Board Chair of American Association of Community Colleges, and Board member of the American Council on Education. 

Sisay Sirgu Betizazu MD, MPH

Dr. Sisay serves as Provost for one of Ethiopia’s largest medical facilities, St.Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College in Addis Ababa. He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine where he also works as an endocrinologist and internist. Prior to joining St. Paul’s Dr Sisay has worked in various private, governmental and international non-governmental organizations including the World Health Organization’s Ethiopia Country Office and at its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. He was the immediate past president of the Ethiopian Society of Internal Medicine and currently serves as a member of the board of directors for the Ethiopian Prosthetic and Orthotic Service.

Sahba Farhad, MD, MPH, FACOG, DipABLM 
Founder & CEO

Dr. Farhad is a public health and lifestyle medicine physician with over 25 years of experience in the field of Obstetrics and Gynecology; previously working in an international hospital system in Beijing, China, and in private practice at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts where she served as Clinical Instructor at Harvard Medical School. In addition, throughout her clinical work she has been involved with community health centers and the training of health workers in the United States, Honduras, and Zambia. After moving to Ethiopia in 2022, her determination to improve the health of larger populations of women caused her to begin the non-profit organization SHEBA Health Innovations Inc.

Carmela Tesfaye Jegose
Executive Assistant

Ms.Tesfaye is a graduate in Public Health from Mekelle University, Ethiopia. Her work at two rural hospitals in the Harare area, both in gynecology and pediatrics, gave her a close-up look at the number of women who lack access to reproductive health and childcare education. She is passionate about the role education plays in her community and assists in the educational processes which enhance the capacity of young people to take charge of their own development and contribute to the betterment of society. Ms. Tesfaye also has prior experience working for a non-governmental organization, the Ethiopian Social Accountability initiative, which aims to address critical issues related to food scarcity, sanitation and health.
